Key benefits

Why Choose PerMix Ribbon Mixers

Counter-flow ribbon geometry

Inner and outer ribbons move material in opposing axial directions to create complete batch circulation.

Horizontal and vertical configurations

Select the footprint and discharge behavior that best fits the plant layout and material.

Low-pressure jackets available

Non-ASME heating or cooling jackets may be configured for water or low-pressure thermal service.

Efficient batch turnover

Optimized ribbon clearances and discharge geometry support short cycles and low residual hold-up.

Sanitary or industrial execution

Available in polished stainless steel or rugged industrial materials and finishes.

Scalable engineering

Laboratory, pilot and production sizes can be matched to the same material and process goals.

Available configurations

Built for Your Process Requirements

Available configuration

Horizontal Ribbon Mixers

U-shaped trough with a horizontal double-helix agitator. The standard choice for broad dry-blending duties, flexible inlet layouts and fast center or full-length discharge.

  • Free-flowing powders and granules
  • Preblends, seasonings and dry ingredient systems
  • Large batches requiring reliable uniformity
  • Products that benefit from low to moderate shear

Available configuration

Vertical Ribbon Mixers

Vertical cylindrical or conical vessel using a helical ribbon and gravity-assisted circulation. Useful where floor space, discharge control or top-entry construction is important.

  • Free-flowing powders and granules
  • Preblends, seasonings and dry ingredient systems
  • Large batches requiring reliable uniformity
  • Products that benefit from low to moderate shear

Frequently asked questions

Ribbon Mixers FAQ

What is the difference between a ribbon mixer and a ribbon blender?

In industrial processing the terms are usually interchangeable. Both describe a vessel containing inner and outer helical ribbons that move bulk solids in opposing directions.

How full should a ribbon mixer be?

The correct fill level depends on ribbon geometry and material behavior. Many designs operate effectively between roughly 40% and 80% of gross volume, but the operating range should be confirmed for the application.

Can a standard PerMix ribbon mixer be jacketed?

Yes. Standard models may include non-ASME, low-pressure heating or cooling jackets. Vacuum, pressure, ASME or higher-risk service is routed to the QuantumX platform.

When should I choose a vertical ribbon mixer?

Vertical models are useful when footprint is limited, gravity-assisted discharge is valuable, or the process benefits from top-entry drive and vertical circulation.

Can liquids be added to a ribbon mixer?

Small liquid additions can often be sprayed into a dry batch. Liquid loading, droplet size, distribution and agglomeration risk must be evaluated before selection.
