Information Required for an ATEX Mixer Design

The area classification, material hazard data and operating scenarios needed before selecting hazardous-area mixing equipment.

Start with the formal area classification

Zone, equipment category, gas or dust group and temperature class must come from the responsible site or hazard-analysis team.

Provide representative material data

Combustible-dust properties can change with particle size, moisture and formulation. Relevant data may include Kst, Pmax, minimum ignition energy and minimum ignition temperature.

Evaluate mechanical ignition sources

ATEX design is not limited to the motor. Bearings, seals, clearances, foreign-object risk, surface temperature, static and abnormal operation must be considered.

Coordinate the full system

Feeders, filters, transfer lines, discharge equipment and controls can affect the same hazardous zone and protection strategy.
