Define what damage means
Breakage may be measured as fines, shape loss, coating damage or reduced functional performance. The acceptable limit should be defined before selecting a mixer.
Reduce unnecessary energy
Lower tool speed, open paddle geometry or tumble blending may protect sensitive particles better than high-intensity mixing. Shorter cycle time does not automatically mean gentler processing.
Discharge can create more damage than mixing
Drop height, valve restriction, screw conveyors and pneumatic transfer can generate fines after a successful blend. Evaluate the complete path to packaging.
Test representative material
Particle strength, moisture and temperature can vary by lot. Testing should use material that represents the most fragile credible condition.
