Start with material behavior
Free-flowing powders, fragile inclusions and cohesive materials do not respond to the same agitator geometry. Selection should begin with flowability, bulk-density variation, particle strength, moisture and the desired degree of deagglomeration.
Ribbon mixing
Inner and outer ribbons create opposing axial flow and broad convective circulation. Ribbon mixers are a strong general-purpose choice for dry powders and granules when the product tolerates low-to-moderate shear.
Paddle mixing
Open paddle geometry lifts and folds material with less continuous conveying. Paddles are often selected for fragile particles, batches with density differences and applications that benefit from gentle bulk exchange.
Plough mixing
Plough tools create more intensive particle movement and can be combined with choppers and liquid spray systems. They are commonly evaluated for cohesive powders, coating, conditioning and short batch cycles.
